2019 Vatan Tinto de Toro
Vatan Tinta de Toro is a rich and intense red wine from Toro, Spain. It is made from 100% Tinta de Toro grapes grown in dry-farmed vineyards in Villaester de Abajo, Zamora, D.O. Toro. The grapes are grown in sandy loam soils that date back to the Cretaceous period, and the climate is continental steppe with large temperature swings between day and night. The 2019 vintage of Vatan Tinta de Toro has a deep ruby color and aromas of cassis, black cherry, caramel, and sage. It has flavors of blackberry, purple-plum, chocolate-covered-espresso-bean, and butterscotch, with a hint of mint tea on the finish. Some say it is a firm and well-built red wine with aromas and flavors of savory spices, sandalwood, licorice, and black fruits. Others say it is lush and chunky on the palate, with mild acidity and bulky tannins, and tastes mostly of toasty, blackened oak, cassis, and blackberry.
